GUENZBURG 2004-11-27: The third beta release of the Filesystem MidCOM stream has been released today. It mainly consists of AIS usability improvements.
The probably most important change in this release is the new, automated and centralized toolbar system. Component authors can now plug together their toolbars programmatically, using a revamped CSS style for them. This brings far more consistency into the various administrative interfaces. Several minor bugfixes, improvements and lesser code cleanups top this release off.
Toolbar upgrade
The toolbar upgrade is two-fold. First, as introduced above, the centralized toolbar system outlined in AIS Toolbar Update MidCOM Technical Note, make it easier for programmers to create consistent looking toolbars. A second class can even be used to construct optically less obtrusive toolbars within your content area, as the screenshot on the above site shows.
Far more interesting is a second "feature": It is now possible (actually, it is mandatory) to add toolbar information (not complete toolbars, just their descriptions) to the NAP data of the component. Essentially, each component now has to use this interface to add various administrative links to leaves and nodes. The site style can show these links in any form they like when an user is authenticated. This finally makes on-site administrative tasks far more easier then they are now. A short introduction about this can be found in the NAP Toolbar Interface MidCOM Technical Note.
Getting MidCOM 1.9.2
As usual, you can download MidCOM 1.9.2 from its project page. Alternativly, you can head for CVS at Tigris.
CVS is actually recommended if you want to participate in bughunting, it will make upgrades to new development versions as trivial as an cvs update.
Check out the Test Setup Instructions MidCOM Technical Note if in doubt.
