MidCOM 1.2.0 released

GUENZBURG, HELSINKI, 2004-03-19 -- The Midgard Project has released version 1.2.0 of the Midgard Components Framework (MidCOM). MidCOM provides a framework for creating reusable and configurable components for web applications using the Midgard Content Management Framework.

MidCOM development was started by Linksystem Muenchen in March 2002, and it has since evolved into a stable and production-proven platform. MidCOM is available under GNU LGPL.

Major changes since MidCOM 1.1.1:
  • Core
    • New user interface localization infrastructure, midcom.helper.l10n
    • MidCOM Cache Handler can now be disabled completely
    • Added Aegir compatible ViewerGroups support for hiding topics
  • Authoring Interface System (AIS)
    • English, Danish, Finnish and German translations
    • New, better CSS layout for the interface
  • Datamanager
    • Integrated HTMLAREA 3.0beta for rich-text editing
    • New pulldown selection widget
    • New radio buttons selection widget
    • New image datatype with scaling and thumbnailing support using the "convert" utility from ImageMagick
  • New checkbox boolean widget
    • New simple view for image and file upload widgets
    • New multiple select widget
  • Navigation Access Point System (NAP)
    • Non-root topic can now be the root topic for MidCOM
    • Topics are now sorted with "score" for Aegir compatibility
  • MidCOM Site Template
    • Introduced a MidCOM Site Template for rapid deployment of MidCOM based sites
For a complete list of changes, please see the CHANGES file in the MidCOM distribution. In total there were 34 bugfixes, 26 feature enhancements and 2 major API changes.

MidCOM requires working PHP 4.1 or later with the iconv extension and Midgard 1.4.4 or later. In addition, Aegir 1.0.1 is recommended for using the MidCOM Site Template package.
