TinyMCE Basic view

Screenshots were taken of the default configuration. Your site might be customized and the toolbar can look different. There might be more or less of buttons and features enabled.

Formatting

TinyMCE Formatting

On the second row there is a formatting tool, which can be used to define how a paragraph should look like. To change the paragraph format

  1. Click on the chapter you wish to change
  2. Choose the formatting style from the dropdown menu

Styling

The basic set of styling tools consists of bold and italics. Bold is indicated by Bold and italics by Italics.

To change the text style

  1. Select the area you wish to change
  2. Click on the styling symbol

Cut, copy, paste

The first three buttons on the toolbar are cut, copy and paste. It is also possible to cut, copy and paste by using the keyboard quick keys:

  • cut Cut
    • Ctrl-X
  • copy Copy
    • Ctrl-C
  • paste Paste
    • Ctrl-V

All of these features are also in right-click context menu.

To cut or copy

  1. Select the area with mouse
  2. Perform the wished action
    • click on the toolbar symbol
    • right-click on the selected area and select cut or copy
    • press Ctrl-X or Ctrl-C

And to paste:

  1. Click on the wished part of the content so that you can see the cursor blinking
  2. Paste by
    • clicking on the toolbar symbol
    • right-click and select paste
    • press Ctrl-V

The default settings of Mozilla Firefox prevent using the buttons and right mouse button for copying, cutting and pasting due to security reasons. To enable these features, please refer to Setting Prefs for the Mozilla Rich Text Editing or ask your support personnel to help.

Undo and redo

Your browser will remember a certain amount of actions performed in the content editor. These actions are often possible to undo Undo and redo Redo.

Lists

There are two main types of lists

  1. Ordered lists with numbering
  2. Unordered lists with symbols

To use these lists

  1. Click on the wished list type
    • Ordered list Ordered list
    • Unordered list Unordered list
  2. Write the list entry
  3. Press enter to get a new list element
    • to get intendation to the list, click on increase indent symbol Increase indent
  4. End the list by pressing enter twice or by clicking again on the list symbol

Creating a hyperlink

  1. Select the area you wish to transform into a link
  2. Click on the Insert/edit link button Insert/edit link
  3. Write the information of the link
    • The only required field is link URL, write here the destination address
    • Select the target window where to open the link
  4. Click on Insert to create the link

TinyMCE Link properties

To unlink select the existing link and right-click on it. Then select Unlink from the context menu.

A good practice with links is to always write the complete address. If you are unsure of the complete address, go to the page you wish to link to and copy the address as it is from the address bar, with HTTP-protocol definitions and all.

Using tables

To add a table right-click on the content area and select Inserts a new table. Define the table proportions to the popup window and click on Insert. Define also the required properties like

  • border
  • alignment

TinyMCE Table properties

There are three different levels of table properties:

  1. The whole table
  2. Table row
  3. Single cell

All the table operations will be found from the right-click context menu. Before right-clicking select the area you wish to affect.

Adding and deleting rows and columns

Adding both rows and columns works equally.

  1. Right-click on the place where you want to be adding or removing a new row/column
  2. Choose the action from the context menu
    • Insert row before inserts a row on top of the selection/cursor
    • Insert row after inserts a row under the selection/cursor
    • Insert column before inserts a column on the left side of the selection/cursor
    • Insert column after inserts a column on the right side of the selection/cursor
    • Delete row removes the currently selected row/rows
    • Delete column removes the currently selected column/columns

Changing the properties

Depending on the level of action (single cell/table row/whole table) select the corresponding action.

  • Table properties for affecting the whole table
    • choose eg. the horizontal Alignment, Border width and table dimensions (Width and Height)
  • Table row properties for affecting the selected rows
    • choose whether the rows represent table body, head or foot
    • general alignments
    • with Table row properties it is also possible to change either the currently selected rows, all the rows or all the odd/even rows of the table
  • Table cell properties for individual table cells
    • cell specific alignments and Cell type
    • cell dimensions (Width and Height)
    • with Table cell properties it is also possible to change either the currently selected cells, all the cells on the currently selected rows or every cell in the table

Many of the actions for cells and rows are the same, although some functionalities are available only for either cells or rows.

Other table actions

To merge or split cells

  1. Select the corresponding table cells
  2. Right-click and choose from the context menu
    • Split table cells to split the merged cells
    • Merge table cells to merge the selected cells into one single cell
