Metadata

The actual metadata fields are for describing what the content is about. This information is mainly for the search engines such as Google, who will be using this information in ranking the pages.

Keywords

Keywords are a list of search words, which describe what search words should find this address.

Description

Description field is for describing shortly the content. This field should be a short summary of the data. Usually description will be displayed, when a search engine offers the page as a possible hit for search result.

Using metadata keywords and description is appreciated both by external indexers and people, who use search engines to find information.

Control external indexing

Control external indexing is a switch, which will tell the search engines how they should act with the requested page.

There are several switches for controlling the external indexers:

  1. Not specified, uses robots.txt
    • The default settings, where a text file robots.txt will be used to define, which parts of the web site should be indexed.
  2. Disallow indexing
    • If Disallow indexing has been chosen, this page will not be indexed at all by external indexers.
  3. Allow indexing
    • This is basically the same as Not specified, but it is possible to override what appears in robots.txt.
  4. Allow indexing, indexer may follow links
  5. Allow indexing, indexed must not follow links
    • Indexer may index the currently viewed page, but it shouldn't index any links on the page. This feature is useful, when preventing indexer from indexing items, which are change the URL address e.g. according to the date.

Internal Metadata

Internal Metadata provides information of the changes on the page or folder. Created metadata tells of the initial creation and Edited metadata points out the last revision. Approved shows the status of Approvals.
