Metadata is information describing the content. Through the metadata it is possible to describe e.g. when the content should be available, what it is about and how external indexers or search robots should index it.
Visibility settings
There are three main settings for visibility:
- Date Publish at
- Sets the point when the content will be shown on the web site. Content will be visible only after this point.
- Date Display until
- Sets the point when the content will be hidden from the public web site. Content will be visible up to this point.
- Hide from navigation
- This switch will toggle the visibility of the page on navigation. Hidden pages and folders are still reachable by writing the exact URL.
To choose the date:
- Click on the calendar icon on the right side of the text field
- Select the date
- Change the month by clicking on single angle brackets (either side of the text Today) or by holding it down and selecting from the dropdown menu.
- Click on the day number to select the date
- Select the time
- Press the left mouse button down on either the hours or minutes and select the correct time by dragging sideways.
- Dragging to left will decrease the time and dragging to right increases it.
- Click on the symbol
on the top right corner to close and save the chosen time.
Metadata
The actual metadata fields are for describing what the content is about. This information is mainly for the search engines such as Google, who will be using this information in ranking the pages.
Keywords
Keywords are a list of search words, which describe what search words should find this address.
Description
Description field is for describing shortly the content. This field should be a short summary of the data. Usually description will be displayed, when a search engine offers the page as a possible hit for search result.
Control external indexing
Control external indexing is a switch, which will tell the search engines how they should act with the requested page.
There are several switches for controlling the external indexers:
- Not specified, uses
robots.txt- The default settings, where a text file
robots.txtwill be used to define, which parts of the web site should be indexed.
- The default settings, where a text file
- Disallow indexing
- If Disallow indexing has been chosen, this page will not be indexed at all by external indexers.
- Allow indexing
- This is basically the same as Not specified, but it is possible
to override what appears in
robots.txt.

- Allow indexing, indexer may follow links
- Allow indexing, indexed must not follow links
- Indexer may index the currently viewed page, but it shouldn't index any links on the page. This feature is useful, when preventing indexer from indexing items, which are change the URL address e.g. according to the date.
Internal Metadata
Internal Metadata provides information of the changes on the page or folder. Created metadata tells of the initial creation and Edited metadata points out the last revision. Approved shows the status of Approvals.
