Ratatoskr and libgda

  1. Ratatoskr and libgda

    Hi!

    I managed to include latest libgda 4.0.8 in debian unstable.
    Which also means it'll be included in next stable Debian release.
    ( I think it'll migrate to testing in a week ).
    We must wait a bit before it can be included in Ubuntu Lucid:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgda4/+bug/537379

    To be prepared for worse scenario, I prepared plan B - build own libgda4
    packages @OBS. Also this plan B will help us to use Ratatoskr before
    Ubuntu Lucid is released.

    http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/midgardproject:/unstable/xUbuntu_9.10/

    Question is here: should we still support libgda3?
    I really doubt MidgardQuery can be implemented for libgda3, so I would
    drop libgda3 dependency and focus on libgda4 only.

    Then, one would be able to install and run Midgard using those distros:

    * Ubuntu 9.10
    * Ubuntu 10.4
    * Debian unstable
    * Debian testing
    * Maemo 5
    * Maybe some recent rpm based distro (FC, Suse).

    I think the same applies to PHP 5.3.

    This way you fork from original libgda and this may bring an issue in
    future. Consider including plan B(a) - dropping custom libgda4 in favor
    of original one when it gets published in targetted distros.

    It's not a fork, Marcin. It's just a packaging of official version which wasn't included in linux-distribution.
    It doesn't have any custom patches.

    Seems like a good and safe plan
