New servers for m-p.org

  1. New servers for m-p.org

    Thu March 04 2010 20:00:08 UTC
As anykey has passed away im in the works of migrating from the old
    serverroom.

I have prepared new VPS machines to host midgard-project. And in some
time i might be able to donate new hardware to run the VPS machines on
    their own.

    109.228.130.112 will be www.midgard-project.org
    109.228.130.113 will be trac.midgard-project.org

On them right now is a clean ubuntu karmic x64 install. Should i change
    that?

I might be able to provide a demo vps aswell but this is a good start so
    we can migrate the website.

Users will be added on request. Who can take care of the move itself?

    /Johan "SmallOne" Bernhardsson

I can handle some tasks: installing midgard, copying database and blobs,
setting things up. But I expect I will need some help with midcom.

This might be a good time to rethink the website all over. The fact is
that the current website doesn't serve us well, so I would propose that
we talk this through in the Gathering and decide the timetable for new site.

But that leaves one question still open. What to do with the old site.
There is a lot of history and old documentation, that we can't just
delete. We could take offline copy of the site and just dump it to
    address like midgard-project.org/midgard1/

I can help with the midcom-side after next week, if the idea is just to
upgrade and not to do any development for the site. The site contains a
lot of small usability bugs that I wouldn't want to address now.

If we move the current as is as fast as possible i can within 20 minutes
add a new one for a new website that we can plan for customers.

I would say that this would be the best thing to do now. Move the
current ones as they are now and we get back to the new website after
    gathering.

Servers is running atm. And i would like to move the site to the virtual
servers instead of moving the whole server from the old place.

I have a deadline for moving or shutting down the old server for the
    last of march.
