The Pfeffingen Ruins

The 62nd @dailyshoot assignment was about discarded and abandoned things. Switzerland is full of old castle ruins that I love to visit. The Pfeffingen ruins are very close to Basel. I shot them after dark as I wanted to experiment with light painting. I'm not totally satisfied with the result, but then again this was the first time I tried this technique. The red cast of the sky is caused by the city lights illuminating the low-hanging clouds. The long exposure time made the glow seem quite unnatural, but I really like the way it adds to the mood and silhouettes the trees behind the wall.
